About Ryan Strickler
I am a composer, performer, and music lover!
Currently, I am finalizing my degrees in Composition and Screen Scoring at Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA while I maintain a self-managed career as an orchestrator and pianist.
During my formative years, music struck me as a way to translate unexpressed feelings. I consider myself fortunate to have been exposed to concert music as well as the intricacies of songwriting in the genres of folk, pop, and rock. My capacity for music matured with me, leading to the day I became a diligent student of it.
Before my time at Berklee College of Music, I studied piano performance and composition privately with a number of respected professors from surrounding music universities in Ohio. I also came away with a number of collegiate awards in composition and performance, which reaffirmed my dedication and determination for the craft. I began playing piano professionally and joined a regional rock/blues band. This gave me experience in live performance, arranging, and recording in a studio.
Gradually, the influence of jazz and blues started to inform my creative process by bringing spontaneity and improvisation into my vocabulary. This “mood capturing” soon got me interested in creating soundscapes for pictures, paintings, and films. My musical education at Berklee College of Music has given me invaluable opportunities to explore composition, art, literature, and film scoring. What I love most about what I do is telling a story through a universal language…the language of music. As a result, I can enrich my own as well as others’ conceptions of cultures, ideas, and expression.
